Have you ever sat upon the concrete steps before the roaring ocean? Have you ever sat and wondered at the expanse of water that to us is so undrinkable? Have you ever listened to the waves crash and wondered about the life below? One day I did.
Foaming waves licked that my toes as I sat near the ocean at high tide. Like a scuba diver, my mind drove into the ocean and my imagination went wandering. In the heart of my mind I saw a beautiful blue expanse with filtered sunlight trickling through the rippling waves.
Amongst the rocks played schools of small fish and grew coral and sea flowers. Dolphins started to and fro while small crabs scuttered through the white sand. I imagined myself swimming far into the ocean beside the beautiful grey porpoise In the ever-warm waters.
As we swim on, I remember the joy of seeing an octopus with its purpleish gray skin and the orange seahorse family making their way into the forest of kelp duck but the most beautiful creature that I encountered while down under these waters was an enchanting vision of red hair, pale skin, and green eyes.
Sailors have a word for this creature: mermaid. She was stunning, with blue green scales upon her lower half like a beautiful tropical fish, she swam with such Grace! That God had created such a creature for me too observe was nearly more than I could comprehend.
She did not speak but made obvious sign for me to follow.
As she and I swim on, more merfolk join us on our journey. Schools a brightly colored small fish trail behind us as we come into her home - A series of caves carved into the coral rocks and adorned with beautiful raw gems and ocean flowers. Once inside I realize that the light is exuding from a colorful blue luminescent stone.a curtain of seaweed separates off the first main room from the back - which I only assume is her slumber room.
Upon the only smooth surface of wall in her home is a beautiful rock drawing of an ocean sure with concrete steps and the person sitting up on them looking out into the ocean and I am drawn back to where I sit and gaze into the ocean using my imagination to see all that could be in front of me.
